Meet the team at Whetstone Baptist Church

Senior Minister
Rev. Phil Robinson
Phil is a highly experienced and gifted church leader, who came to be senior minister at Whetstone in 2019. After living in London for many years, he's really appreciating the beauty of the Leicestershire countryside, and is enjoying living here.
Phil comes from Plymouth originally, and became a Christian as a teenager. His interest in buildings might have led him into architecture, but he felt a calling to Christian ministry instead and went to study theology and history in Birmingham. Following that he trained at Spurgeons College, graduating in 1986.

Associate Minister
Rev. Nick Swanson
Nick graduated from Spurgeons College in 1994 and came to Whetstone in 2006, having faithfully served God at a Baptist church in Suffolk for 12 years, following his career in the Royal Air Force.
Nick is primarily responsible for discipleship and faith development here at Whetstone.
Nick is married to Sue and they have two grown-up children and a granddaughter. Nick loves walking in the Peak District, playing chess, spending time with the family, and (despite the ribbing he gets) supports Nottingham Forest.

Minister In Training
Simon Clay
Simon took up the post of minister in training at WBC in September 2021 after recently moving to Whetstone from Canterbury, where he was a teacher.
Simon is married to Katie and they have three children. Simon is currently studying at St Hild College alongside his time at WBC.
Simon loves to watch or play any sport and can often be found playing in one of the worship teams on a Sunday. Simon’s passion is to help people get to know more about Jesus.
