About sermon sketchnotes: visualising the message

One of our members, Neil Burley, has been exploring ways of using creativity differently in our worship. After reading about Sketchnotes (a form of visual note taking developed by Mike Rohde), he has used the method to illustrate several sermons. The notes are completed in real time as the sermon is given, without reference to anything but the title prior to the address being given. Little work is done to the pieces after the sermon. It has been interesting to see how the emphasis can differ between, but always compliment, the spoken and noted versions of the same sermon – something you can determine for yourself as you look through the examples that follow.

For the technically curious, they are either completed in a Moleskine Pocket Sketchbook using a Lamy Safari fountain pen and Noodler’s Bulletproof black ink; or on an iPad Pro using the Apple Pencil and Procreate and Inkpad apps.
